              The Me 262B-2a Night Fighter

The Me262B-2a had, as a primary change from the Me262B-1a two
seat trainer, the fuselage lengthened somewhat to restore the
original Me262A fuel capacity. Two 79 gallon drop tanks were
standard to increase loiter time at night. The first
Me262B-2a had a FuG 218 Neptun V radar with a four-pole
Hirschgeweih array, and a FuG 350 ZC Naxos for homing in on
British H2S emissions. The radar array did result in a speed
loss of 37mph, however. The Me262B-2a also had 2 x Mk 108
30mm cannon just aft of the cockpit in the "schraege musik"
configuration, firing forward and upward, and retained its
normal 4 x Mk 108 30mm cannon in the nose.

HOW TO USE THIS PLANE

1. First, copy the enclosed files to the following
    locations:

    ME262B.EXP (into the AC subdirectory)
    B17NIGHT.EXP (into the AC subdirectory)
    ME262B.INT (into the CP subdirectory)
    NITEOWL.PAC (into the AC subdirectory)

ME262B.BAT AND NO262B.BAT can be placed wherever you have
    your batch files.

2. Next, backup your ME262A.spc file as ME262A.ORI. Backup
your VGA.PAC file as VGA.ORI. Also, you must backup your
    B17F.SPC and B17G.SPC files as B17F.ORI and B17G.ORI
respectively. This will allow the batch files to run
properly. Leave the backup files in the same
subdirectory. Backup these four files, and you're ready.

3. Run the Me262B.bat file by typing the filename and the
drive letter where you have SWOTL installed, for example,
"me262b C" -- This file copies the ME262B.EXP and the
NITEOWL.PAC files into the ME262A.SPC and the VGA.PAC
files respectively. Or, use your own "plane swapping"
method if desired, just remember swap the .PAC file as
    well as the .SPC file.
The ME262B.bat file also swaps in the b17night.exp file
into the B17g.spc file and B17F.spc file. This removes
the ball turret and reduces the firepower of the tail,
top, and nose to simulate the increased difficulty of
seeing at night. This makes your targets less lethal to
you as you approach on a "Schraege Musik" run.

The Niteowl.pac file, designed by Anthony Shimuzu, turns
SWOTL environment into a "dusky" lighting scheme.
Bombers look best in the early camoflage option.

4. Run the NO262B.bat file to remove all changes. Or,
again, use your own file swapping methods.

To use the "schraege Musik", press the "G" key to switch
to the gunner view. You will be in the "top turret",
which is the 2 x Mk108 "Schraege Musik" position. Press
"A" for autofire and then "P" to return to the pilot's
position. The "Schraege Musik" will fire if you are a
reasonable altitude below the bomber, and lined up and
flying not too much faster. It is best to reduce speed,
approach from directly behind, and try to be 200-500 feet
below the bomber. It takes some skill to use this weapon.
It is also most excellent on replay (grin).
