INTERCEPT UNESCORTED B-17S

Until the end of 1943 the USAAF did not
have a competent long-range fighter.
The P-38 was hampered with engine trouble
and poor cockpit heating at higher
altitudes and the P-47 only had the range
to escort the bombers to Aachen, just
inside the German border. After Aachen
the bombers were forced to defend them-
selves.

YOUR MISSION

You are leading a flight of three
Bf 109s, heading straight for a huge for-
mation of B-17s. They are unescorted but
their gunners pose a serious danger.
Don`t line up behind them; it`s the best
thing to use head-on attacks as the
B-17s are less protected to the front.
A flight of FW 190s is also operating in
the area.

Difficulty: hard
