DESERT TANKBUSTERS

In July 1942, No. 6 Squadron, led by
Squadron Leader Allan Simpson, flew a
mission in support of the Free French at
Bir Hacheim. The "flying sharks" of No.
33 Squadron flew top cover, and the three
Hurricane IIds took off from a sand
airstrip at Gambut East. Flying at 10
feet off the deck, the Hurricanes
attacked from 1000 yards away. During
the mission two planes were lost, with
Squadron Leader Simpson bailing out in no
man's land and luckily rescued. The
second pilot crash-landed and hitchhiked
back to the airstrip.

MISSION

Take your three "tankbusters" and provide
some badly needed relief to the French at
Bir Hacheim. Destroy as many tanks
(individual flak guns surrounding the
target) as possible.

NOTES

This is a day mission.
