THE CAPTURE OF BALTA

On August 3rd, 1941, Company C of the
744th Engineer Regiment was attached to
the 239th Infantry Division, and
currently building footbridges across the
Kodyma River.  The 239th was to capture
the small town of Balta, 120 miles
northwest of Odessa.  As they prepared to
attack by 0600, the 744th's main
regimental assembly area came under
attack by 15 Russian bombers at 0530.
Knowing this, Company C's commander (on
his own initiative) ordered his men to
attack the town from the east to help out
his higher headquarters.  The attack was
a success.

MISSION

You are on a reconnaissance patrol when
you hear the call for help from the 239th
Division on the radio.  Destroy as many
SB-2s as possible.

NOTES

This is a dawn mission.
