VYAZMA AIRDROP

On the night of 27 January 1942, the
Soviet 8th Airborne Brigade parachuted
behind German lines near Vyazma, intent
on cutting the main highway between there
and Smolensk. Reacting quickly, the
Germans launched air attacks against the
three Soviet airfields at Kaluga that
were supporting the airdrops. During one
raid on the 28th, 7 TB-3 bombers, a
fighter, and precious fuel stocks were
destroyed. Due to a lack of support,
scattered landings, and a quick German
response, the Soviet paratrooper losses
were extremely high.

MISSION

You are to phtotgraph post-strike results
of a Stuka attack on the Soviet airfield
supporting the airborne drop. (use your
gun camera in conjunction with the Norden
bombsight, which represents your vertical
Rb 20/30 camera.) Although you may attack
any targets yourself, getting the
photographs back to friendly lines is the
main priority.

NOTES

This is a snow mission.
